There are many ways to get around in Chicago, especially if you're staying in one of Chicago's downtown hotels. You can drive, get a cab, use the public transportation service or even catch a free trolley. Public Transportation

The public transportation service, in Chicago, is provided by CTA (Chicago Transit Authority), which operates trains and buses within Chicago's city limits, as well as in some of the nearby suburbs. The CTA train lines are divided by colors - Green, Red, Brown, Blue, Purple, Orange, Pink and Yellow. All the lines lead to the Loop, except the Yellow line, which is a non-stop shuttle, between the northern border of the city and Skokie suburb. The buses run on nearly every major street in the city, and the bus stop can be easily spotted - just look for a blue and white sign.

Car

Before you decide to get behind the wheel at start driving, you should know that the traffic in Chicago can be only described in one word - awful. Although the city streets are laid out on the grid, many present multiple levels, which can confuse even the most `professional` city driver. Parking is also an issue, because it can get quite expensive, most the parking spots in the Loop costing as much as $40 a day.
