Loyola University (Illinois) is a Jesuit private university located in Chicago, which is the largest city in the US state of Illinois, also earning its title of the 3rd most populated city in USA, having a population of more than 2.5 million inhabitants. ‘’Chicagoland’’, as its metropolitan area is commonly referred to, is the 26th largest metropolitan area, worldwide, having approximately 9.7 million people, living within its limits.

Loyola University, which dates since 1870, when it was known as St. Ignatius College, adopting its current name in 1909, is recognized today as the largest Jesuit, Catholic University in USA, consisting of 10 schools and colleges, through which it offers its students various educational programs, including in arts and sciences, medicine, law, nursing and business administration.

Loyola has been highly ranked by various significant educational-related magazines, such as U.S. News & World Report, which named it a ‘’ best value’’ in one of its 2008 rankings, its part time Graduate School of Business being ranked in the top 10. According to Business Week, the university’s Graduate School of Business is on the 8th place in the nation for its intensive Part-Time MBA program.

The athletic teams from Loyola are known as the Loyola Ramblers, who compete in 11 varsity sports in the NCAA Division I, including in basketball, soccer, volleyball, and cross country. The Ramblers have experienced victory several times, in the past years, including in basketball, in which they won the Men’s 1963 national championship, and as of 2010, Loyola University is the only one Division I NCAA school in the state, that ever won a national title.
